Knut Sæter

Knut Sæter (1922–1989), founder of Vatne Lenestolfabrikk (now Vatne Møbler AS), was born and raised in Vatne, a small village in the Sunnmøre region of Norway.
He began his journey as an interior architect at the Bergen School of Arts and Crafts and later worked briefly at LK Hjelle before founding Vatne Lenestolfabrikk in 1946, at just 24 years old.

Under Sæter’s leadership, Vatne Lenestolfabrikk became known for its commitment to quality in both design and craftsmanship. He collaborated with young and promising designers such as Gerhard Berg and Swedish designer Torsten Johansson. However, Vatne’s major breakthrough came through its partnership with Fredrik Kayser. Beginning in the 1950s, Kayser designed a series of pieces for Vatne that combined aesthetic appeal with functional excellence, capturing the attention of an international market—especially following the launch of Kayser’s iconic lounge chair, Model 711.

Manhattan is built on a frame of plywood with a eucalyptus core and a poplar outer veneer, combined with laminated pine wood trim.
The base is fitted with nosag springs for added comfort.

The seat cushions feature a polyurethane foam core, topped and bottomed with KospoFe – a blend of small polyester fibers and down feathers, placed in pockets above and below the foam core to create a soft and comfortable feel.

Manhattan can be upholstered in a wide range of textiles from Innvik, as well as in aniline and semi-aniline leather from Elmo.
Sofa legs are available in matte black powder-coated finish, chrome, or oak.

We recommend vacuuming the sofa regularly using medium suction power and a gentle nozzle, preferably with a brush. Be careful and avoid using objects with sharp edges.

In case of stains on the fabric, use a lint-free cloth or a sponge. Warm and wring out the cloth or sponge, then press evenly over the area to remove impurities. Avoid rubbing the area, as this can damage the fabric fibers.

If the sofa is upholstered in leather, we recommend following  Elmo Leather`s care instructions  and using their maintenance products. Please contact us if you need maintenance products, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
