Tube Side Table

1971, Norway

The Tube side table, designed by Sigurd Resell in 1971, is an elegant and functional piece of furniture that fits perfectly next to a sofa or as a standalone element in the room.

With legs in chrome-plated steel, the side table offers a light yet sturdy construction that combines an industrial look with modern elegance. The 12 mm thick tempered glass tabletop ensures durability and style, while highlighting the table’s geometric form. The transparent glass creates an airy feel, making the table a perfect choice for both small and large spaces. The Tube side table is a functional design icon that brings a touch of Scandinavian design history into any interior.

Sigurd Resell

Sigurd Resell (1920–2010) was born in Meldal, Trøndelag, and discovered an early interest in construction and craftsmanship. After a brief apprenticeship with a local carpenter during his youth, he was encouraged to apply to the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo. In 1943, he began studying furniture design in the school’s Department of Woodcraft.

In 1968, Vatne Lenestolfabrikk—a key Norwegian furniture brand—lost its designer Fredrik Kayser, who passed away unexpectedly. Resell stepped into the role, beginning a collaboration that would result in several iconic pieces.

Resell’s ability to merge tradition with modernity is especially evident in our own Tube Chair design, which balances comfort with a minimalist aesthetic. He continued working with Vatne throughout the 1970s and 1980s, producing a range of furniture that exemplifies his philosophy of timeless design.
