Sigurd Resell

Sigurd Resell (1920–2010) was born in Meldal, Trøndelag, and developed an early interest in construction and craftsmanship. After a brief apprenticeship with a local carpenter during his youth, he was encouraged to apply to the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo, where he began studying furniture design in the Wood Department in 1943.

In 1968, Vatne Lenestolfabrikk, a prominent Norwegian furniture manufacturer, lost its designer Fredrik Kayser, who passed away unexpectedly. Resell stepped into the role and began a collaboration that would result in several iconic pieces of furniture.

Resell’s ability to unite tradition and modernity is particularly evident in the design of our own Tube Chair, which balances comfort with a minimalist expression. He continued to work with Vatne throughout the 1970s and 1980s, producing a wide range of furniture that exemplifies his philosophy of timeless design.

The frame of the Tube is made of chrome-plated steel, designed to allow a gentle rocking motion. The steel frame is covered in durable cotton canvas, laced through eyelets with cord from Norsk Fletteri.

The seat cushion is filled with fiber and stitched together from high-quality rectangular leather panels, providing a soft and comfortable feel. The back of the cushion is made of cotton canvas. The cushion is secured to the back and seat with snap buttons attached to the canvas. The armrests are made from the same high-quality leather as the seat cushion.

We recommend using as few chemicals as possible when maintaining the Tube chair. Gently vacuum the seat cushion and wipe the steel frame with a damp cloth. If the leather needs cleaning, we advise following  Elmo Leather’s care instructions. Contact us if you would like to obtain cleaning and protective products—we’ll be happy to assist you.
