Tube Chair

1971, Norway

Tube is a lightweight lounge chair, designed by Sigurd Resell in 1971. The chair is a timeless piece of furniture that combines simplicity, comfort, and functionality.

This is a chair designed to provide a comfortable seating position, adapting to the body's movements with a gentle rocking motion. With an elegant tubular steel frame and a distinctive canvas seat cushion, it is both a practical choice and a striking addition to any room.

Its lightweight construction makes it easy to move, and this flexibility makes it an ideal choice for both private homes and office environments. The choice of materials gives the chair exceptional durability, making it a piece to cherish for generations to come. The combination of minimalist design and excellent ergonomics offers a perfect balance between style and comfort.

Sigurd Resell

Sigurd Resell (1920–2010) was born in Meldal, Trøndelag, and discovered an early interest in construction and craftsmanship. After a brief apprenticeship with a local carpenter during his youth, he was encouraged to apply to the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo. In 1943, he began studying furniture design in the Department of Woodworking.

In 1968, Vatne Lenestolfabrikk - a key Norwegian furniture brand - lost its designer Fredrik Kayser, who passed away unexpectedly. Resell stepped into the role, beginning a collaboration that would result in several iconic pieces.

Resell’s ability to merge tradition with modernity is especially evident in the design of our own Tube Chair, which balances comfort with a minimalist aesthetic. He continued working with Vatne throughout the 1970s and 1980s, producing a range of furniture that exemplifies his philosophy of timeless design.

The frame of the Tube chair is made of chrome-plated steel, shaped to allow a gentle rocking motion. The steel frame is covered in durable cotton canvas, laced through eyelets with cord from Norsk Fletteri.

The seat cushion is filled with fiber and crafted from high-quality rectangular leather patches, providing a soft and comfortable feel. The back of the cushion is made of cotton canvas. It is fastened to the backrest and seat using snap buttons attached to the canvas. The armrests are made from the same quality leather as the seat cushion.

We recommend using as few chemicals as possible when maintaining the Tube chair. Gently vacuum the seat cushion and wipe the steel frame with a damp cloth. If the leather needs cleaning, we recommend following  Elmo Leather’s care instructions.
