Skøyen Designfestival 2026

Article

Oslo, 4–5 September 2026

This September, Skøyen brought together designers, architects, artists, manufacturers, retailers and design enthusiasts for two days of exhibitions, conversations and new encounters. For Matre, the festival was an opportunity to bring much of our collection together under one roof at Tannum Møbler — and to share some of the latest chapters in our story.

Tannum has been an important part of Matre's journey from the very beginning, making it a natural place for us to take part in the festival. Throughout the two days, visitors had the opportunity to explore a wide selection of the Matre collection, from established design classics to our latest introductions.

One of the highlights was Python, designed by Peter Opsvik in 1975. After remaining in Opsvik's archives for nearly 50 years, the chair made its first public appearance at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen earlier this year. In Oslo, even more visitors had the opportunity to take a seat, experience the chair firsthand and discover the story behind a design that had waited decades to be revealed.

The weekend was just as much about the people as it was about the furniture. Tannum was filled with life throughout both days, with inspiring conversations about Norwegian design, materials, heritage and the future. We reconnected with partners and customers, met many new faces and experienced the same curiosity and enthusiasm that has surrounded Python since its introduction.

We also presented a new chapter of Matre's Artist of the Year project, developed in collaboration with Trafo Editions and Magne Furuholmen. Each year, the project introduces new colourways of our iconic Stripe pattern, which serve as the starting point for an original artwork by a selected artist. This year's artwork was created by Alejandra Aguilar Caballero, a Mexican artist based in Oslo.

For us, encounters like these are an essential part of building Matre. Design is never just about the objects themselves, but equally about the stories, people and conversations that emerge around them.

Skøyen Design Festival offered exactly that — two inspiring days celebrating Norwegian design, meaningful encounters and the opportunity to share where Matre stands today.

A heartfelt thank you to Tannum Møbler for opening their doors, and to everyone who stopped by.

We carry the inspiration from these two days forward as we continue to shape the next chapter of our design story.

Driven to shape our future design story.
