Launch Party

Article

On August 29, 2024, a new chapter in Norwegian furniture design was written with the launch of Matre at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo.

The launch marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the Norwegian furniture brand, founded in 2023 by Elizabeth Matre-Aas, who has a strong passion for Norwegian design heritage. The evening brought together design enthusiasts, industry professionals, press, and friends to experience our first collection and get a glimpse of who we are.

With a strong foundation in Norwegian furniture tradition but with a forward-looking vision, we presented our very first collection: the "Vatne Collection," which combines timeless design with modern functionality. The event at Kunstnernes Hus, with its artistic and historic atmosphere, was the perfect setting for Matre — a brand aiming to elevate Norwegian craftsmanship and design on the global stage.

In addition to showcasing the collection, we shared insights into our philosophy, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and a deep respect for craftsmanship.

The collection was met with great enthusiasm, and we are so happy to contribute to preserving and continuing these iconic products. The furniture in the Vatne Collection is a reminder of the value of fine craftsmanship and timeless design, while being ready to meet the demands of the future.

During the launch evening at Kunstnernes Hus, Matre had the honor of receiving the quality seal "Made in Norway" from Innovation Norway. This trademark recognizes our work in preserving and continuing Norwegian craftsmanship and design tradition, while renewing and creating products that meet future requirements. We are proud to have received this seal, which confirms our commitment to quality and sustainability in everything we do.

The evening also featured the first of many Design Salons—an initiative aimed at gathering voices from the design industry to discuss and explore future opportunities for Norwegian design. The theme of the first conversation focused on sustainability, innovation, and how Norwegian design can reach new heights on the global stage. Design Salon became a platform for inspiring conversations and ideas, and we look forward to continuing this important dialogue in the future.
